December 16th Structure Fire

At 7:15pm Dec 15 GVFD responded to the report of an attic fire called in by RCMP. The fire was contained to its spot of origin and the home was ventilated and residents were able to return. At 7:15pm Dec 16th GVFD were attending a medical call, and while assessing the patient the duty officer noticed a strong smell of smoke, and while investigating discovered a home that was fully engulfed with flames.

GVFD responded for a defensive attack, and while the structure was a total loss, members were able to protect adjacent exposures as well as the surrounding forest, finally clearing at 12:45am. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but preliminary information looks like it was caused by a damaged chimney. Local Emergency Social Services is helping the displaced resident. Chief Sprogis would like to thank all GVFD members for continuing to dedicate so much of their time to the community during the holidays.
