GVFD Gets FireSmart Grant

Early in 2021 the Gabriola Volunteer Fire Department applied for a Community Resiliency Investment Program grant designed to fund FireSmart BC projects, and help communities recover from the economic impact of the Covid19 pandemic. The GVFD is pleased to announce that as of late last week, our grant application has been successful!

Led by the GVFD’s Prevention division, grant funds will be used to promote various FireSmart focused projects, provide island residents with FireSmart home assessments, and where individuals qualify, help with costs associated with vegetation management. With the goal of creating a community more resilient to and knowledgeable about the threats that wildfire poses both on our island and across BC, watch for upcoming Gabriola FireSmart projects hosted in person and online.

For more information about this project, or to sign up for a FireSmart Home Assessment, contact our Prevention Division using the form on the FireSmart section of our website, and watch for updates here, on social media and in the Sounder.
