The Gabriola Volunteer Fire Department is proud to launch a fundraising initiative in honour of Jay Dearman, whose passion for firefighting and dedication to mentoring youth left a lasting impact on our community.

Your donations will help support:

A Youth
Firefighting Camp

Sponsorships
for young women to attend the Island Ignite Firefighting Camp

Two bursaries
to help youth pursue firefighting education and training
​Last year’s Junior Firefighter Camp was our most successful yet, welcoming 18 juniors aged 12–18. The goal of the junior program is to empower Gabriola youth by building confidence and practical life-saving skills, including:

Proper use of a fire extinguisher

FireSmart techniques

Basic rope and knot skills

Fire safety, health, and safety awareness

Structural firefighting basics

Wildfire firefighting basics

Charitable receipts will be issued by the Gabriola Volunteer Fire Department. ​​​​​​To ensure the longevity of this initiative, the Fire Department has established a savings account in Jay Dearman’s name dedicated to supporting these programs.
