​ Every five years, the Fire Underwriters Survey evaluates the Gabriola Island Fire Department’s test results and application for re-accreditation to deliver Superior Tanker Shuttle Service to properties insured under Personal Lines within the Gabriola Island Fire Protection Area.

   

   Because the Fire Underwriters Surveyor of British Columbia has determined that the Gabriola Island Fire Department qualifies for accreditation (beginning in 2024), constituents within our fire protection district who own properties within specified areas of the community are eligible to receive a cost reduction in their fire insurance rates from the majority of insurers in Canada! 

 

The Superior Tanker Shuttle accreditation currently shows that Gabriola Fire has demonstrated that it can provide a high level of fire protection, even though Gabriola doesn’t have a municipal water system with hydrants throughout the community. This accreditation remains in place as long as the Department continues to demonstrate that it has the capacity to provide this level of service as re-accreditation takes place.
